Three years ago the first Team Strong Hope was formed with a group of boys to play in a lacrosse tournament in Maryland. I wanted these boys to play for a cause and a purpose. We choose to play in honor of pediatric cancer. In addition to playing we raised over $1000.00 in a week with just 12 boys and onward things went from there.
Cancer shows no prejudice or mercy on the ones it attacks. StrongHope Foundation has waged a counter attack towards this disease with the Team StrongHope Campaign which we hope with the help from many can contribute to one day finding a cure.
The Team Strong Hope name is defined as:
Team - a group organized to work together
Strong - involving or possessing physical or mental strength
Hope - a wish or desire accompanied by confident expectation of its fulfillment
We choose the Neon yellow color to raise awareness. With the pediatric cancer ribbon being a golden yellow we have accented it with a bright neon yellow to attract attention to the campaign and to raise question about what we stand for. We want to be what pink is to breast cancer in years to come!
Each year we have continued to put together Team Strong Hope teams that have raised money and played for Pediatric Cancer treatment and research. This year marks the third year for the Team Strong Hope campaign and things are rapidly spreading to more teams and more sports at all levels.
So how does a 10 year old girl from Manchester, MD who is battling sarcoma make hundreds of new friends from the local swimming community, join a swim team, inspire people to raise thousands of dollars and have her mind taken off the daily burden of her disease by overshadowing hope given form those around her?…
and how does an 8yr old boy from Southern Pennsylvania who is batting leukemia now have 61 new big brothers from two local lacrosse teams who adopted him as part of their teams for practices, games and tournaments, inspired a local high school to have a Friday night game in his honor, touched the hearts of many compelled to come together and support the cause and also have his mind taken off the daily burden of fighting his disease?…
The Team StrongHope Team Ambassador program…that’s how!!
The Team Ambassador program allows children who have or have had cancer to become part of a TEAM. We want to support these heroes and honor them for their unprecedented bravery. When these Cancer Ambassadors become part a of the Teams that are participating in the Team Strong Hope Campaign there are provided with a support group of new friends who are participating in their honor. These TEAMS provide them with not only friendship but also provide them with hope…Strong Hope that they and their new found TEAM mates will remember for a lifetime.
In April of 2012 StrongHope Foundation was granted IRS approval to be a Tax Exempt Public Charity 501 c 3.
We are in need of financial assistance to help us continue to push forward. Please visit our donate page if you or someone you know may consider supporting our Foundation. Our goal is and will always be to keep our expenses low so that we maximize the funds that are going to the actual cause. Donations are tax deductible!
All of the donations raised by Strong Hope Foundation go towards funding The Team Ambassador program, Pediatric Cancer Research, future grants that will be given to fund researchers and clinical trials and select families who are in desperate need of financial support due to being uninsured and or have been denied coverage by their insurance company for care needed.
This is why we fund research.
- There are significant funding Disparities
- Childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded.
- In 20 years the FDA has initially approved only one drug for any childhood cancer – 1/2 of all chemotherapy’s used for children’s cancers are over 25 years old
- Research and development for new drugs from pharmaceutical companies comprises 60% of funding for adult cancer drugs and close to zero for childhood cancers. However, the NCI spends 96% of its budget on adult cancers and only 4% of its budget on children’s cancers.
With your support we not only help draw closer each day to finding a cure but we provide HOPE to children who continue to battle cancer. HOPE is what inspires us to push forward. The Team Strong Hope Campaign will help provide HOPE in more ways than any of us can imagine!
Thank You for your interest and support,
StrongHope Foundation Founder
